Apartments to rent in PUERTO POLLENSA, Mallorca (Majorca).

If you want to have a birds eye view, either as a pilot or passenger, fixed wing or helicopter, I know how to go about this having done it many times myself. There is a small airfield called Son Bonet, just outside Palma where you can hire aircraft and either go around the island, or for the more adventurous, fly across to Menorca or even the mainland.

For those with their own licences, it is possible to rent from Son Bonet. It's a very sleepy airfield, so much so you almost expect to see the tumbleweed roll across the runway. There is an American style unicom frequency to negotiate, but all the times I've been there, it's been so quiet this has not been a problem to those of us used to UK style ATC. In terms of flying round the island, the VFR airspace runs to 1000 feet, AGL except around Palma Airport where naturally it's class A airspace. This 1000' AGL is interesting and smacks of something of an after thought as most of the island is around 100' to 200' above sea level, but to the north, this can be over 4000'. Don't be put off by this as it's quite straight forward, just different, and there is some great scenery and immense freedom to go and explore it. In the summer months, you need to start early or leave it very late as flying during the heat of the day is somewhat uncomfortable.

Feel free to drop me a line and I'll happily talk you through the process.

And talking of flying things, keep a good lookout for the water bomber that lives in the bay!
